FOXBOROUGH, Mass.; PROVIDENCE, R.I. and CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cyberkinetics Neurotechnology Systems, Inc. (OTCBB: CYKN; “Cyberkinetics”), Brown University, and the Cleveland FES (Functional Electrical Stimulation) Center at the Case Western Reserve University announced that they will act as a consortium pursuant to a five-year, $6.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support the development of Cyberkinetics’ BrainGate Neural Interface System (BrainGate System). The grant was awarded by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, both constituents of the NIH. The goal of the BrainGate System is to provide a reliable, fully implantable and wireless neuroprosthesis that enables paralyzed people to use their own limbs to perform tasks such as eating, drinking, and controlled breathing, as well as to regain bowel and bladder function.
