SKILLMAN, N.J., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- ConvaTec today announced the availability of its enhanced Little Ones(R) pediatric line of ostomy products for infants and children. ConvaTec Little Ones(R) will be available globally over the next several months.
"The enhanced ConvaTec Little Ones(R) product line is the result of our passion to make a difference by providing the best pediatric ostomy system for infants and children," says Nino Pionati, ConvaTec vice president, Global Marketing, Research and Development.
"Our goal was to create a product designed specifically for a child, not a smaller version of an adult product," says Pionati. "Ostomy, neonatal, pediatric nurses and parents provided input that we used in our development of the enhanced ConvaTec Little Ones(R) line. We believe that with these caregivers' input, we have developed a pediatric ostomy line that is complete in the marketplace today."
This extensive ostomy product line was designed specifically for the pediatric population with thinner landing zones, welded edges for added softness against a baby's delicate skin and smaller sizes to accommodate smaller weight babies. Little Ones(R) ostomy systems feature ConvaTec technologies including Adhesive Coupling Technology(TM) (ACT) and the InvisiClose(R) outlet, an integrated closure system.
The Little Ones(R) systems use the Stomahesive(R) skin, hydrocolloid adhesive technology, which conforms to the folds of a child's body, and ConvaTec's patent pending InvisiClose(R) outlet, an integrated closure system which allows for easier drainage and a softer closure. The new Little Ones(R) pouches are lined with colorful, Koala-themed fabric panels for increased comfort.
About Children with Ostomies
There are many pediatric anomalies that may lead to ostomy surgery. Depending on a child's medical condition, the ostomy may be temporary or permanent; however most childhood ostomy surgeries are reversed later in life.
Most children who have an ostomy can participate in school and sports activities. The ostomy itself poses no limitations with the exception of rough contact sports. Otherwise, children can swim, play ball, or take part in any activity they choose.
ConvaTec has developed educational brochures on anomalies that may lead to pediatric ostomy surgery and on pediatric ostomy care for parents, caregivers and healthcare professionals.
