CENTENNIAL, Colo., Feb. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cochlear Limited (ASX: COH), the global leader in implantable hearing solutions, announced today the commercial availability of the innovative SmartSound® iQ for use with the Cochlear Nucleus® 6 Sound Processor.2SmartSound iQ is Cochlear’s third generation signal processing platform that automatically adapts to different sound environments to deliver a more comfortable listening experience and the opportunity for the best possible hearing performance in noisy situations.1 The addition of SmartSound iQ to the Nucleus 6 Sound Processor coincides with the availability of true 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity, a first in the cochlear implant industry.
“We are pleased to introduce SmartSound iQ and 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity to the Nucleus 6 Sound Processor as they help provide a better user experience,” said Chris Smith, President of Cochlear Americas. “Not only does SmartSound iQ make listening easier by automatically adjusting to new sound environments, but the majority of users reported an improvement in hearing in noise. These results, combined with the easy-to-use wireless accessories, are particularly encouraging as our main goal is to help our recipients always hear their best.”
The Nucleus 6 Sound Processor has the world’s first Scene Classifier in the cochlear implant industry that automatically scans your surroundings and identifies the listening environment as one of six scenes: Speech in Noise, Speech, Noise, Wind, Quiet or Music. SmartSound iQ then automatically adjusts the setting for each scene in order to provide optimal hearing for that situation without the need for manual adjustments to the sound processor or remote, helping make listening easier and more complete. In fact, the majority of Hybrid Implant recipients experienced a significant improvement with hearing in noise with SmartSound iQ.1
With a full range of wireless accessories, Cochlear is the first and only company to deliver true wireless freedom without the need for wires or neck-worn loops. Utilizing the same 2.4 GHz wireless protocol that Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi devices depend on, Cochlear Wireless Accessories provide a streamlined connection to popular electronic devices (TVs, smartphones and MP3 players) without the interference and signal drops that may occur with traditional wireless systems.
SmartSound iQ is approved in the U.S. for use with the Nucleus Hybrid L24 Implant. To learn more about SmartSound iQ and true 2.4 GHz wireless capabilities with the Nucleus 6 Sound Processor, visit www.Cochlear.com/US/SimplySmarter.
