KIRKLAND, Wash., May 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CellCyte Genetics Corporation (the "Company") has purchased a state-of-the-art nuclear imaging system that it will use in pharmacological studies to track both its compounds and delivered stem cells.
The system, combining SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography) and a conventional CT (computer tomography), will be one of only two systems, and the only system owned by a Biotech or Pharma company, on the West Coast of North America. SPECT tracks cells and drugs that are labeled with radioactive beacons or markers. Its combination with CT allows the precise anatomical co-registration of the obtained signals. The purchased system is one of only a few commercially available systems that are dedicated to nuclear imaging in preclinical models, and allows the non-invasive tracking of radio-labeled substances and cells with a spatial resolution of less than 1 mm.
"Our cell delivery compounds were identified using nuclear imaging, and the new system will allow us to expand these studies at a resolution that has not previously been possible," states VP of Pharmacology, Andreas Kalmes, Ph. D. "This will allow us to precisely follow and quantify the biodistribution and retention of administered stem cells and our compounds alone and in combination. It's unlike anything being done in stem cell research at the moment."
The data collected with the imaging system in preclinical studies will be used in support of IND submissions for CellCyte's lead product, CCG-TH30, as well as other cell delivery products in the Company's pipeline.
