CardioVascular Technologies, Inc. Announces Patent Notice Of Allowance For Its Tissue Heating Device And RF Heating Method With Tissue Attachment Feature Technology

PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- CardioVascular Technologies, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has recently received a Notice of Allowance for its patent application titled, "Tissue Heating Device and RF Heating Method with Tissue Attachment Feature." The allowed patent includes three broad and enabling Independent claims -- Device, System and Method. The allowed patent has a priority date going back several years (prior to 1999).

Devices of the invention are suitable for ablating/coagulating any soft tissues (including, but not limited to, atrial tissue to treat Atrial Fibrillation (AF), Atrial Flutter, and other types of arrhythmia). The top and sides of the device function as a thermal insulator to prevent unintended thermal damage to surrounding or adjacent tissue during the ablation /coagulation process. The device incorporates a vacuum feature that urges tissue into contact with the heating element and assists in holding the tissue during the ablation/coagulation process. In addition, the optional fluid irrigation provided by the claims cools the tissue surface during the ablation /coagulation process and lowers the impedance at the tissue to electrode interface. The devices also enable less invasive surgical procedures involving endoscopic or laparoscopic access, as well as visualization to the desired ablation/coagulation sites.

The Company is currently looking for a partner or strategic alliance to develop the technology and commercialize the resultant devices -- The Company may also be interested in licensing (Field of Use) or selling this technology.

We believe that the multiple implementations of the technology included in the patent will prove to be important and enabling to the acquiring company. In addition, the case offers the additional advantage of the possibility of combining it with other pending cases (possibly from the acquiring company) as one or more CIP cases, while still retaining the earliest priority date for the core technology. Prior to the issuance of this patent, we will file a Continuation case to broaden the coverage for the technology, as well as to keep the case active for future CIPs or Divisional cases.
