“We know AEDs can enhance public safety,” said Garry D. Norris, vice president, marketing. “According to the American Heart Association, the chances of survival from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) diminish 7-10% every minute, and the average survival rate for out-of-hospital SCA is only 6 percent. However, municipalities that deploy AEDs have experienced survival rates up to 7 times the national average. In the hands of the average layperson, Cardiac Science’s reliable, easy to use AEDs provide the capability for schools and communities to successfully improve their response to SCA.”

The use of a defibrillator to shock the heart back into normal rhythm is the only effective treatment for sudden cardiac arrest, and several peer-reviewed studies in leading medical journals have demonstrated that defibrillation within the first few minutes of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest significantly improves the likelihood of a victim’s survival.
