WAUKESHA, Wis., Sept. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- With millions expected to visit PhiladelphiaSeptember 25-28 to greet Pope Francis, the city of Brotherly Love and its neighboring cities are bracing for large turnouts and the likelihood of medical emergencies, including sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) incidents.
In response, Cardiac Science, a global leader in automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and Team Life of Colts Neck, N.J., have stepped up to loan 15 Powerheart® G3 Pro AEDs to the New Jersey EMS Task Force, who will safeguard more than 1 million people expected to cross the Ben Franklin Bridge from Camden City, N.J., into Philadelphia to attend the World Meeting of Families and Festival of Families as part of this weekend’s papal visit.
“The Cardiac Science units are filling a gap for the Task Force,” said Debra L. Bell, New Jersey EMS Task Force State Planner. “They’ll enable us to equip our people with life-saving devices.”
“Public gatherings such as the papal visit present enormous challenges to the governmental agencies tasked with ensuring public safety,” said Al Ford, Cardiac Science General Manager and Senior Vice President of Sales / Marketing. “We’re very proud to be able to assist the New Jersey EMS Task Force and its many volunteer EMTs and paramedics in helping to safeguard visitors this weekend.”
The New Jersey EMS Task Force, part of the state’s Department of Health, works within the state’s Emergency Management System to provide highly trained, equipped EMS personnel for incidents and pre-planned events such as the papal visit. More than 400 task force personnel will be on duty during the weekend, Bell said.
The task force will have 50 AEDs in the field this week. Most of the units will be with EMTs riding bicycles or driving small Gator utility vehicles to get through the crowds.
The Powerheart G3 Pro, developed specifically for emergency care personnel such as the New Jersey EMS Task Force, features a backlit color ECG display, manual override, and 3-lead ECG monitoring capabilities.
