Caliper Life Sciences Expands Offering for Next Generation Sequencing Workflows

HOPKINTON, Mass., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Caliper Life Sciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: CALP) today announced the availability of a new, higher sensitivity DNA assay for its LabChip GX analytical platform, as well as the new Sciclone NGS Workstation. The LabChip GX assay is optimized for QC steps that assess concentration and size distribution of next generation sequencing (NGS) libraries. The Sciclone NGS Workstation automates the most commonly used NGS sample preparation steps, including adapter ligation, exome capture, PCR setup, and nucleic acid cleanup, and other enzymatic steps.

In addition to the LabChip GX and Sciclone NGS workstation, Caliper has recently commercially launched the LabChip XT for fast, accurate size selection of sheared libraries. These NGS sample preparation platforms are experiencing rapid adoption, with recent purchases by the Broad Institute, BGI, Joint Genomes Institute, National Center for Genome Resources, BioReference Laboratories, Sequenom, University of Miami, and many other sequencing institutions.

“Caliper continues to make strategic investments, guided by our collaborators at leading sequencing centers, to develop sample preparation solutions for NGS workflows,” said Kevin Hrusovsky, President and CEO of Caliper Life Sciences. “Caliper’s presence in the NGS market is rapidly expanding. Our sales backlog for the LabChip XT is very healthy and we are seeing broad adoption of Caliper’s platforms in this market.”

The LabChip GX utilizes Caliper’s innovative microfluidics technology to perform reproducible, high-resolution, electrophoretic separations for analyzing DNA or RNA integrity. The Sciclone NGS Workstation is Caliper’s automated liquid handling workstation, which is a robust, scalable platform that has been specifically customized for NGS methods and can be integrated with the LabChip GX platform for extended hands-off automation. The LabChip XT removes a key bottleneck in sequencing library preparation by replacing tedious and inconsistent gel isolation steps.
