Body Fat May Affect ER-Negative Breast Cancer, Harvard University Study

MedPageToday -- Visceral adiposity may contribute to the risk for estrogen receptor-negative breast cancer in premenopausal women, a large prospective study suggested. The hazard ratio for this type of breast cancer for women in the highest quintile of waist circumference was 2.75 (95% CI 1.15 to 6.54, P=0.05 for trend) compared with those in the lowest quintile, according to Karin B. Michels, ScD, PhD, and colleagues from Harvard University in Boston.
