Natural compounds are, by definition, small molecules produced naturally by any organism including primary and secondary metabolites. Ever since ancient times, natural compounds have already been reliable sources for human beings to treat a wide spectrum of diseases. Natural compounds laid a solid foundation and contributed a lot for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The medical application of natural compounds were also found in other ancient civilizations such as Egypt, India and Greek dating back to thousands of years ago, according to early relevant documentations.
“What makes natural compounds stand out among numerous chemicals is their therapeutic benefits,” revealed Dr. Baron Miller, Chief Scientific Officer at BOC Sciences. “They have been valued by doctors throughout ages. We didn’t forget them at all even in modern times. As we enter the new millennium, the demand to derive active components as lead compounds for drug discovery are even greater.”
Despite the increasing market demand for natural compounds, there is only limited access and supply to them, which does pose a great problem for those pharmaceutical companies with interest for applying natural compounds in drug discovery. The possible reasons may partly include:

Loss of sources due to rising extinction rates.
BOC Sciences already introduced 3500 different natural compounds in its collection before this move is made. “It is precisely out of concern for the limited access to natural compounds that our management decides to expand the product line so as to satisfy varied needs from customers,” explains Dr. Baron Miller. “This time we added another 800 purified natural compounds with rare access in the market, which greatly enhances the searching experiences of our customers to find the specific natural compound they need most.”
Medical function of natural compounds
Natural compounds could be applied clinically to treat a string of ailments and diseases. For instance, natural compound p-Menthane-3, 8-diol could be used as insecticide, food additives, spice or cosmetics, etc.
