Biotest Pharmaceuticals Opens New Plasma Center in Melbourne, Florida

BOCA RATON, Fla., Oct. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Biotest Pharmaceuticals Corporation (BPC), a leading developer of immunology biotherapeutic products, has opened its 14th U.S. plasma collection center. The state-of-the-art, 16,000 square foot facility is located at 3110 lake Washington Road in Melbourne, Florida and officially opened its doors on October 24, 2013.

“We are pleased with the continued growth of our U.S. plasma collection network,” said Jordan Siegel, BPC’s Chief Executive Officer. “This is the second new center we have opened this year and we are continuing to expand our U.S. operations to address the global demand for this very important source material.”

The plasma collected at BPC’s centers is used to manufacture life-saving therapies including Biotest Pharmaceuticals’ BIVIGAM® [Immune Globulin Intravenous (Human), 10% Liquid] for the treatment of primary humoral immunodeficiency (PI) and Nabi-HB hyperimmune globulin for the treatment of acute exposure to blood containing hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), perinatal exposure of infants born to HBsAg-positive mothers, sexual exposure to HBsAg-positive persons and household exposure to persons with acute HBV infection.

BPC expects to add more than 40 jobs to Melbourne’s local economy and currently has career opportunities available for Licensed Practical Nurses/Registered Nurses, phlebotomists and various other positions. In addition to supporting the local economy through employment opportunities, the center is actively recruiting plasma donors.
