THE foundations have been laid to establish a new East of England-Silicon Valley research axis.Biotechnology would be a major cornerstone of the alliance but San Jose State University, which outlined the vision exclusively to Business Weekly, has world-leading capabilities in other areas of science, technology and engineering.While no formal collaborative agreements have been signed, a basis has been established for further talks to firm up proposals.Tie-ups between San Jose and East of England universities, as well as corporate alliances and sectoral collaborations are all on the discussion table.William Nance, vice-provost of San Jose State University (SJSU), said the alliance held potentially enormous spin-off benefits for both San Jose and the East of England.
