INDIANAPOLIS – BioStorage Technologies, Inc. (BST), a worldwide provider of long- and short-term storage of biomaterials, sample management and cold chain logistics for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, today announced the expansion of its U.S. operations.
The company will increase its existing operation in Indianapolis to include an additional 40,000 square-foot cold-storage facility, in Park Fletcher Business Park, near the Indianapolis International Airport. The new facility will maintain compliance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and current Good Manufacturing Processes (cGMP) standards.
The $6.1 million investment by BST is part of the company’s planned growth strategy to increase temperature-controlled storage capacity and logistical support for the company’s growing and diverse global customer base.
“Preserving the integrity of biomaterials and clinical trial samples plays a critical role in worldwide drug development,” said F. John Mills, M.D., Ph.D, chief executive officer and chairman of the board at BST. “The new addition will allow us to provide the highest levels of service and world-class facilities to support the complex and sophisticated needs of our growing customer base. Our strategic location in Indianapolis, near the country’s second largest FedEx hub, gives us the capability to ship critical, temperature-sensitive biomaterials and clinical trial supplies to a location of customers’ choice within 24 hours.”
The company’s continued growth will create 125 new jobs by 2012 and builds on Central Indiana’s $13.6 billion global life sciences sector. The greater Indianapolis area ranks second in the nation in the number of jobs created to support the pharmaceutical industry, according to the July 2008 edition of Business Facilities magazine.
