BIOLASE Technology, Inc. Names Ehab M. Esmail Vice President Global Regulatory, Quality and Clinical Affairs

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - August 11, 2011) - BIOLASE Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: BLTI), the World’s leading dental laser manufacturer and distributor, today announced that it has named veteran regulatory affairs executive Ehab M. Esmail its Vice President of Global Regulatory, Quality and Clinical Affairs, effective August 9, 2011. Esmail will report directly to Chairman and CEO Federico Pignatelli.

Esmail, 39, has more than 18 years of diversified experience working as a specialist in regulatory affairs in the medical device and biologics industries. During that time, he has been proactive in managing product registrations, averaging more than 340 annually over the last five years plus clinical studies and reacting to changes in government regulations as they relate to existing products and the development of new products.

Prior to coming to BIOLASE, Esmail for the past 11 years has held positions of increasing responsibility at Arlington, TN-based Wright Medical Technology, Inc., a publicly-traded global medical device company specializing in the design, manufacture and marketing of reconstructive joint devices and biologics. For the past two years, he was Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs and led Wright Medical’s interaction with regulatory authorities in a variety of countries including the U.S., Canada, Australia, Brazil, France and Germany.

Prior to working at Wright Medical, Esmail spent seven years at UK-based Smith & Nephew, Inc.'s Orthopedic Division. During the last two years at Smith & Nephew, Esmail was Senior Regulatory/Clinical Affairs Specialist and managed all product registrations and clinical studies, among other responsibilities.

Esmail has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Memphis. He is also a graduate of the Executive Development Program for Senior Regulatory Professionals at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
