WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Barr Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that its Board of Directors voted unanimously to extend its authorization of the Company’s stock repurchase program through December 31, 2006. The stock repurchase program was initially authorized in August 2004 for up to $300 million. Through September 30, 2005 the Company acquired 2.6 million shares of common stock for approximately $100 million under the terms of the stock repurchase program.
The program permits the Company to repurchase stock from time to time through open market transactions or through privately negotiated transactions subject to market conditions and other factors. The Company intends to fund any repurchases with cash on hand and cash generated from operations. The Company had approximately 106 million shares of Common Stock outstanding as of September 30, 2005.
The Company may discontinue the repurchase program at any time. Authorization to repurchase shares is not a guarantee that the Company will repurchase any shares.
