CHICAGO, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to a long overlooked and growing health concern, the World Council on Hearing Health (WCHH) today announced a global initiative to combat hearing loss, which by 2015, will impact 33 million Americans (10 percent of the U.S. population). Lack of knowledge about preventing hearing loss and available treatments is blamed for these startling numbers.
As part of Better Hearing and Speech Month, the Council is launching Citizens Hearing Health and Research Conferences across America, including Chicago’s Listen and Hear: What Have You Been Missing?. The conference is sponsored by Advanced Bionics Corporation, manufacturer of the HiResolution(TM) Bionic Ear System.
The conference is free, open to the public and of particular interest to parents of children with hearing loss, adults with hearing loss, educators and hearing health care providers.
“This Citizens Hearing Health and Research Conference is a unique opportunity to educate the people of Illinois about the importance of hearing health,” said Richard J. Wiet, MD, FACS, Northwestern University. “Many of the leading physicians and hearing health professionals will share information on medical and surgical treatments, detection and diagnosis, infant hearing screening, cochlear implants and more.”
Registration prior to May 8th is recommended (202-289-5850, ext. 1006, or april@drf.org) to ensure a seat and complimentary lunch. No registration is required to receive a free hearing screening at the Hearing Healthy Van.
