UrgentRx, Project C.U.R.E. Come Together To Bring Much-Needed Relief To Developing Countries

Colorado companies partner to help at-risk populations devastated by natural disasters, war or poverty

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Denver-based company, UrgentRx®, known for producing and selling single-dose over the counter medications and providing fast relief to everyday consumers is now partnering with Colorado-based philanthropic organization, Project C.U.R.E. – provider of medical supplies and equipment to resource-limited communities across the globe.

“In our effort to give back, we wanted to do something that fit with our company’s DNA”

As of August 2015, UrgentRx has donated approximately $1.5 million worth of UrgentRx® Fast Powders™ as part of the company’s focus on giving back to people in need. The flavored powdered medication provides relief for a variety of ailments including headaches, fever, upset stomach, diarrhea, heartburn and allergies. The products don’t require water (the medication can be poured directly in the mouth) and are packaged in such a way that the product can be easily transported and distributed to individual patients. Each packet is single dose helping to eliminate the chance of contamination that could happen with the bulk distribution of pills or liquids.

“The availability of over-the-counter pharmaceuticals can easily be taken for granted by those who use them on a daily basis,” stated Douglas Jackson, President and CEO of Project C.U.R.E. “However, for many people who live in developing countries the idea of over-the-counter pharmaceuticals is non-existent. Thanks to the generous work of UrgentRx, the idea can now become a reality.”

UrgentRx products will be distributed to people all over the world – this could be in vulnerable areas and populations devastated by natural disasters, civil war or long-term poverty where healthcare is scarce or non-existent.

“In our effort to give back, we wanted to do something that fit with our company’s DNA,” said UrgentRx COO, Lynne Millheiser. “Providing fast relief to people in need is core to the UrgentRx mission, which aligns perfectly with the vision of Project C.U.R.E. We are proud to partner with Project C.U.R.E. and will work together to deliver health and hope across the globe. We look forward to leveraging this partnership to make a positive impact on communities worldwide.”

ABOUT PROJECT C.U.R.E.:

Healthcare in many developing countries is a global crisis. The severe lack of healthcare disrupts social and economic stability in almost every developing nation. Disease causes nine-out-of-ten preventable deaths in developing nations among children and adults. Millions of children under the age of five die each year from preventable disease, and more than 70% of these deaths occur from pneumonia, diarrhea, measles, malaria and malnutrition.

Founded in 1987, Project C.U.R.E. has grown to be the largest organization in the world delivering nearly 150 forty-foot ocean freight cargo containers of donated medical supplies and equipment each year. Each project begins with an onsite Needs Assessment to ensure that Project C.U.R.E. delivers the right items to the right people. To date, Project C.U.R.E. has delivered medical relief in 133 countries.

On average, the value of a Project C.U.R.E. Cargo container is worth $450,000, providing an amazing 20-to-1 “return on investment.” Project C.U.R.E. operates Distribution Centers in Denver, Phoenix, Houston, Nashville, Philadelphia and Chicago where more than 17,000 volunteers sort more than 26,000 types of non-perishable medical supplies and certify medical equipment for shipment abroad. Project C.U.R.E. also operates 15 Collection Centers across the United States. Project C.U.R.E. receives both new and quality used medical items from hundreds of hospitals throughout the United States and medical manufacturers.

Project C.U.R.E. operates on 1.9% administrative overhead and has earned numerous awards for being the industry leader in international medical donations. Project C.U.R.E. is recognized as a four-star charity by Guidestar and Charity Navigator and was ranked by Forbes as one of the 20 most cost effective nonprofits in the United States.
