ARLINGTON, Texas, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Health Resources (THR) ranked No. 10 on the InformationWeek 500, a prestigious listing of the most innovative users of information technology in the United States. The top 10 spot represents a significant jump from last year’s ranking of No. 102, reflecting THR’s commitment and investment in implementing IT solutions to improve patient safety and control costs.
THR ranked second among the nation’s health care organizations in the InformationWeek 500 with only the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center appearing higher in the top 10.
In addition, THR also received special mention as one of the five top performers in using technology for business optimization.
“We’re thrilled to be recognized for our efforts to fulfill our mission on a local level while being compared with companies who operate on a global level,” said David Muntz, chief information officer at THR. “This award highlights the tremendous strides THR has made in implementing information technologies designed to improve patient safety and the quality of medical care while also controlling costs through more efficient sharing of information. Being named to the top 10 of the InformationWeek 500 is a great testament to the innovative, collaborative business processes we have in place.”
For 16 years, the InformationWeek 500 has tracked organizations’ IT agendas, providing a unique opportunity to understand and examine their business practices across core areas of technology operations. Companies named to this list demonstrate a pattern of technological and organizational innovation. E.&J. Gallo Winery, which is ranked No. 1, Verizon Communications and Marriott International are some of the household names that made the list.
“The InformationWeek 500 has made major strides in corporate accountability in the past 12 months,” said Stephanie Stahl, editor-in-chief of InformationWeek. “Compliance with government regulations such as Sarbanes- Oxley, HIPAA, and the Can-Spam Act accounts for some of the progress. Yet 99 percent of the nation’s most innovative companies analyze the return on their IT investments and nearly 90 percent conduct performance assessments on existing business and technology processes, signifying that accountability among this year’s 500 is as much about meeting internal expectations as it is about achieving externally imposed guidelines.”
The InformationWeek 500 is the most detailed source of industry-specific IT budget data. The research project gathered in-depth information directly from companies about how they approach and prioritize their IT investments. The research identified and ranked the companies following an extensive online and phone study.
This year’s ranking marks the fourth consecutive time that THR has been named to the InformationWeek 500 list.
