CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwired - September 03, 2015) - Surgical Theater, LLC announced today that it received CE Mark approval for the commercial sale of its FDA cleared 3D Virtual Reality, Surgical Guidance and Navigation Platforms within the European Union. Based upon technologies from advanced flight simulation, the Surgical Navigation Advanced Platform (SNAP) offers dynamic visualization capabilities in real time, together with extensive modeling and 3D image manipulation with virtual reality headsets, not available with conventional image guidance systems.
“In light of the positive market response Surgical Theater has already experienced in the United States, we are excited to meet the growing demand for advanced imaging in the operating room and throughout the treatment process in Europe,” stated Moty Avisar, CEO, President and Co-Founder of Surgical Theater.
“We are seeing our 3D Virtual Reality Surgical Guidance and Navigation Platform support surgeons in clinical decision-making with the aim of improved efficiency and increased safety margins in surgery. Our platforms are being utilized before and during surgery, and are also bringing another dimension for patient education and post procedural review. The addition of Virtual Reality enables the surgeon to gain a significantly higher level of situational awareness and insight regarding their surgical strategy by enabling them to be virtually inside the surgical pathway and operative area. This is a transformative advance in the way medical imaging is being used during surgery,” said Avisar.
Over the coming months the company will launch the product in selected Hospitals across Europe. The first collaboration of Surgical Theater in Europe is with the prestigious Carlo Besta Neurological Institute, who has been the first to utilize the technology under research collaboration with the company.
“As a tertiary referral center, we have a busy Neurosurgical department and see significant benefits in using 3D Virtual Surgical Guidance for pre-operative planning and intra-operative guidance,” stated Dr. Francesco DiMeco, Director of Neurosurgery Department. “During a recent complex case, that would normally take 6 hours, Surgical Theater’s technology increased our confidence in the surgical plan and we were able to significantly reduce the operative procedural time. We are pleased to see the introduction of this technology in Europe, which we believe will help us to improve our patient’s treatment and outcomes.”
“Receiving CE Mark approval for our 3D Virtual Reality Surgical Guidance and Navigation Platform is a significant milestone not only for our company, but also for surgeons and their patients,” said Avisar. “The CE Mark approval is additional evidence of Surgical Theater’s culture of innovation, together with our commitment to the highest standard of compliance in quality and regulatory systems.”
Surgical Theater’s 3D Virtual Surgical Guidance Platform will be showcased during the Virtual Neurosurgery Course on September 7th prior to the 15th Meeting of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies in Rome, Italy. During the Congress the SNAP will be located at Booth # 3&4 from September 8th-12th, 2015.
About Surgical Theater, LLC
Surgical Theater is a leader in the agile development of Medical Applications for Virtual Reality and Imaging Guidance. The company’s 3D Virtual Reality, Surgical Guidance and Navigation Platform is transforming the way Surgeons consult with patients, plan complex surgical procedures, use medical imaging during surgery and conduct post operative reviews.
The Surgical Navigation Advanced Platform (SNAP) uses flight simulation technology that enables dynamic fly-though and creation of the surgical eye view, resulting in enhanced situational awareness in minimally invasive/keyhole surgeries and complex neurosurgical procedures. Coupled with standard intra-operative navigation platforms, Surgeons can dynamically interact with the navigation image to explore behind pathological and vital structures, clarifying anatomical relationships and “See What You Can’t See.”
With the introduction of Virtual Reality, Surgical Theater is creating a new frontier for a truly immersive experience, allowing the Surgeon to virtually walk inside the brain.
Surgeons have used Surgical Theater technology in over 900 cranial cases nationwide to help patients with tumors and cerebrovascular disorders. To date, 3D Virtual Reality, Surgical Guidance and Navigation has been installed in leading research and teaching hospitals across the United States including; University Hospitals Case Medical Center, University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, The Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, The Mount Sinai Hospital, Mayo Clinic, NYU Langone Medical Center, and others. www.SurgicalTheater.net
