OAKLAND, Calif., June 29 /PRNewswire/ --

What: St. Louise Regional Hospital Workers Rally For Quality Care, Jobs When: July 1st, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Where: Saint Louise Regional Hospital 9400 No Name Uno Gilroy

On Thursday, July 1st, St. Louise Regional Hospital workers and patient care advocates will call upon hospital management, the Daughters of Charity, to institute the same patient care and job standards at their facility as have been put into place at Kaiser and Catholic Healthcare West’s California hospitals. Workers from St. Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy, O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, Seton Medical Center in Daly City and Seton Coastside in Moss Beach will take time out at their respective worksites to rally for quality patient care and jobs at Daughters of Charity facilities.

California hospitals have been plagued with ongoing problems such as understaffing, high turnover and difficulties recruiting and retaining qualified staff. In order to address these issues, other regional hospital corporations such as Catholic Healthcare West and Kaiser Permanente have adopted a set of common-sense solutions that include an education and training fund for hospital employees, improved retirement benefits and other important issues that would improve the quality of patient care and jobs at California hospitals.

“At St. Louise, like at many other hospitals across California, we have a tough time recruiting and maintaining enough quality staff,” said respiratory therapist Susan Reddell. “The recent contract agreed upon by Catholic Healthcare West and their employees shows a spirit of cooperation between the employees and management -- a common desire to improve patient care by providing quality job standards that will help keep dedicated employees interested in working at CHW facilities. We work hard at Daughters of Charity facilities, but we need management’s help to provide job standards that will help attract and maintain enough staff so we can provide the highest level of care for our patients.”
