HOUSTON, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- SpectraCell Laboratories, Inc., announced construction is underway on its new $2.5 million Houston facility. The new building will serve as corporate headquarters and will also house the company’s state-of-the-art laboratory. SpectraCell is a specialized clinical laboratory providing unique blood testing services for physicians nationwide. The company’s patented FIA(TM) tests (Functional Intracellular Analysis) detect deficiencies of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants at the cellular level.
SpectraCell was founded in 1993 by William B. (“Chip”) Stanberry, who serves as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. The company is privately owned, and its stockholders include two Houston-based firms, Houston Partners, a venture capital investment firm, and the Clayton Foundation for Research, an organization dedicated to medical research.
Chip Stanberry, SpectraCell’s Chief Executive Officer, said the expansion was undertaken to accommodate the growing company’s need for additional laboratory equipment and more office space for its increased administrative staff. Physicians across the country in numerous medical specialties use SpectraCell’s FIA(TM) to identify nutritional deficiencies in their patients, and use this clinical information to develop a healthcare plan for patients with a variety of diseases or risks. “Demand for our testing has grown explosively in the past several years, as physicians and their patients have become increasingly aware that vitamin deficiencies contribute to many chronic degenerative diseases,” Stanberry said. “Physicians have seen our tests make major differences in the lives of their patients with everything from diabetes to heart disease to chronic fatigue.”
The new SpectraCell building, which will contain 20,000 square feet of space, is located at the Oak Park development in the Westchase Business District in southwest Houston. SpectraCell has entered into a sole tenant long-term lease for the facility. It is being built by GSL Industrial, Ltd., a major Houston-based developer of industrial and office properties. Completion is anticipated in late 2005.
About SpectraCell Laboratories, Inc.
SpectraCell is a CLIA accredited laboratory that services healthcare providers nationwide by providing an innovative assessment of a patient’s nutritional status. Unlike traditional serum, hair and urine tests, SpectraCell’s patented FIA(TM) (Functional Intracellular Analysis) process evaluates how an individual’s white blood cells respond to specific environments of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants. By measuring the functionality of specific nutrients in a patient’s own cells, individual differences in metabolism, age, genetics, health, prescription drug usage, absorption rate or other factors are taken into consideration, opening a true “window on intracellular function.”
