San Francisco has beaten out Sacramento to serve as the headquarters for stem cell research funding, the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine committee announced this afternoon (Friday, May 6, 2005).Sacramento, San Diego and Emeryville were also under consideration. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom said the city offered the committee $17 million in perks, including 10 years free rent.
