ORTHOCLOT® to enter human trials this Fall
Dr. Rudy Padua, Ph.D., recently joined St. Teresa Medical as director of clinical affairs. Prior to joining St. Teresa, Dr. Padua was a clinical trial manager at Bard Lutonix, where he managed global investigational device exemption and post-market clinical trials.
“We are pleased to welcome Rudy to St. Teresa as we move forward this Fall with human clinical trials for ORTHOCLOT® in the UK. He will play a central role in the development and execution of our clinical plan and human trial procedures in Europe,” said Phil Messina, co- founder and CEO of St. Teresa Medical.
Rudy has 16 years of medical-device industry experience, ranging from early-stage research and development projects focused on the development of next-generation biologics/medical device products to the conduct and management of pre-clinical studies and pre- and post-market clinical studies.
Currently, St. Teresa Medical is developing a late-stage fibrin sealant platform technology called ORTHOCLOT®, the only rapidly dissolvable and absorbable fibrin sealant that will be available in the European Union during early 2015 and in the United States in 2016.
About St. Teresa
St. Teresa Medical, Inc.®, based in St. Paul, is a medical-device company developing a new unique fibrin sealant called ORTHOCLOT®. Dressings currently used for surgery or severe trauma have limited clotting capabilities and many have a foreign body delivery carrier that can cause unwanted side effects. The patent-pending ORTHOCLOT technology accelerates clotting by adding clot-forming proteins to the bleeding site, creating a quick robust clot, potentially saving lives. The product is the only sealant with a rapidly dissolvable and absorbable protein delivery carrier (no collagen or cellulose). ORTHOCLOT, once approved with CE Marking in Europe, will be the only fibrin sealant that has the indication for use in all cancellous bone bleeding. ORTHOCLOT will fill an unmet need in the rapidly growing orthopedic market. The original technology for ORTHOCLOT was transferred to St. Teresa Medical from Virginia Commonwealth University and the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine.
