PITTSBURGH, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Four Rivers Software Systems, Inc., the provider of TMS, the leading maintenance management software (EAM/CMMS) system for the healthcare industry, announced today that Rockford Memorial Hospital (RMH) in Rockford, IL has implemented TMS Locator for asset tracking.
Gary Bayston, Manager of Biomed Engineering, had recognized the potential savings that asset locator technology could provide for RMH. A study was conducted throughout the hospital and it was determined that nursing, support services and Biomed spent a combined total of 7,760 minutes per month searching for lost mobile equipment. This translated to over $4,000 per day or $1,460,000 per year of lost productivity. The analysis also documented the frustration experienced by the staff from spending so much time searching for equipment.
The critical factor in Gary’s selection of TMS Locator was the fact that it utilized RMH’s existing investment in 802.11 (Wi-Fi) wireless networking. This satisfied the IS department’s requirement to utilize the existing wireless infrastructure and made the solution very cost effective. The proof of concept began in June of 2005 in the respiratory therapy department with 18 ventilators tagged for asset tracking.

The proof of concept was a success and our nurses are clamoring for a hospital-wide implementation. The savings from productivity improvements alone will more than justify the system. The second phase of the implementation will take place in October when the remaining sections of the hospital are brought online and an additional 600 assets will be tagged. Subsequent phases will expand the number of assets being tracked.
