Physio Logic’s new fluoroscopy machine allows for precise injection guidance for pain management. |
Physio Logic, NY physical therapy and pain management practice, continuously adds new wellness services for the best possible patient experience. Confident in their integrated approach to pain management, Physio Logic’s doctors, anesthesiologists and physical therapists welcome proven approaches to relieve chronic neck, leg, hip, arm and back pain. Fluoroscopy-guided injections are a conservative, relatively noninvasive treatment option to relieve pain, improve mobility and help prevent the need for surgery. The injections are now available at Physio Logic’s Brooklyn location for well-suited patients.
What is fluoroscopy?
Fluoroscopy is a medical imaging technique that uses real-time x-rays to visualize a patient’s anatomy. Fluoroscopy is especially useful for a variety of diagnostic and interventional procedures. Unlike a traditional x-ray that just shows a still picture, fluoroscopy allows the provider to see a “video” of the body’s internal systems. With this tool, injections can be placed with precision in the affected area.
What are fluoroscopy-guided injections?
The injections typically consist of analgesics for pain relief, or steroid medication to reduce inflammation. These injections are used to relieve chronic back, neck, leg, hip, or arm pain. Fluoroscopy-guided injections are also used to diagnose the cause of chronic pain symptoms when the source is unclear.
How is the fluoroscopy procedure done?
The procedure varies depending on the type of injection. At Physio Logic, the comfort and wellness of patients is most important. Physio Logic’s highly-trained doctors and anesthesiologists will customize treatments based on patients’ unique needs.
Common Types of Injections using Fluoroscopy
- Facet Joint: Located at every spine segment, the facet joint aids in stability and motion. A facet joint injection addresses pain caused by arthritis and back injuries.
- Hip, Shoulder and Knee Joints: Arthritis, as well as hip, shoulder or knee joint injury and stress, can cause pain in the hip, buttock, leg, lower back, shoulders, arms, knees and legs. An injection in the area will relieve pain, and help determine its cause.
- Epidural: During an epidural for back and leg pain, fluoroscopy is crucial for guiding the needle for most efficient anesthetic properties.
- Sacroiliac Joint: The sacroiliac joints are located next to the spine, connecting the sacrum with the hips. Joint inflammation or dysfunction may cause pain in the lower back.
-
Radio Frequency Ablation: Best performed with fluoroscopy guidance for proper placement, radio frequency ablation is a procedure to reduce neck or back pain related to facet joint conditions.
