Ohio Health Care Association Elects Toledo Long-Term Care Executive As Chairman

COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- A Toledo, Ohio, businessman and health care executive was elected Chairman of the state’s largest long-term care association during ceremonies in Columbus, Ohio, this week.

William H. Kinschner, Vice President and Director of Management Support Services, HCR Manor Care, was elected 2005-2006 Chairman of the Ohio Health Care Association (OHCA) by the organization’s Board of Trustees at the OHCA 2005 Annual Convention and Exhibition held April 18 - 21 in Columbus.

Kinschner, with a Masters of Business Administration from Dartmouth College, has been actively involved in the management of almost 500 nursing facilities, assisted living residences and home health care service providers operated by HCR Manor Care in 30 states, including Ohio, since 1987. Prior to that, he served in various manufacturing and administrative positions with Owens-Illinois Glass Container Operations in the US, Japan and Venezuela.

Within OHCA, Kinschner has been active since 1993, serving as a member of the Board of Trustees and on the Association’s Legislative and Payment for Services Committees. He was also elected Secretary, Treasurer and Vice Chairman of the Association prior to his election as Chairman.

During his inaugural speech to the members of the Association, Kinschner recognized the Medicaid and Medicare funding crisis that could imperil thousands of long-term care patients in Ohio and nationwide, as well as worsening shortages of health care professionals, and a poor public perception of nursing facilities.

“We must continue to segment the health care market and place people in the most appropriate care setting,” Kinschner said. “We must lead the charge in continuing to take the cost out of health care.” He advocated more rapid placement of patients from hospitals to nursing facilities for rehabilitation, and called for re-inventing health care in Ohio and around the nation. Among his other goals, Kinschner said that he would pursue more involvement of member providers in the affairs of the Association, including continued efforts to ensure that legislators across Ohio recognize the impact long-term care providers have on their communities.

In his other activities, Kinschner is Past President of the Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, serves as district enrollment director for Dartmouth College, is Past President of the Hope Lutheran Church Congregation, and is a board member of the New Hope Christian Community Foundation.

Kinschner resides in Toledo, Ohio, with his wife Bonnie.
