Medical Renaissance Institute Release: Renaissance Summit Heralds Complete Hands-On Training Program For Cardiothoracic And Vascular Surgeons

FREDERICK, Md., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Drs. David Allie, Frank Criado, Edward Diethrich, and Michael Mack - world-renowned in the field of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery - will co-chair the inaugural “Renaissance Summit: Reinventing the Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeon.” This continuing medical education course (part of the larger Renaissance Program) is designed to be a valuable adjunct in strengthening an endovascular practice for cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons and will still be presented on Saturday, October 29, at the InterContinental Hotel in Miami, Fla., in conjunction with New Cardiovascular Horizons 2005 - the premier multidisciplinary cardiovascular conference in North America. Due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina, the Summit has been relocated to Miami, Fla.

The Summit heralds the complete Renaissance Program that offers several hands-on training components to surgeons designed to provide the foundation for expanding a traditional surgical practice to capitalize on new technologies and procedures that have been developed during the last decade. This program highlights the need to provide organized, curriculum-based hands- on training to practicing physicians who must become credentialed in new procedures not presented during medical school, residency, and fellowship training.

In addition to the primary subject for this year’s Summit (“Reinventing the Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeon”), there will be a wide variety of hands-on workshops covering topics such as the endovascular treatment of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms, percutaneous vascular access, peripheral vascular disease (PVD), remote SFA endarterectomy, endovenous therapy, and percutaneous heart valve therapy for the cardiothoracic surgeon (CTS), as well as a medical simulation component with simulation cases including carotid stenting, cardiac rhythm management for the CTS, and endovascular treatment of PVD.

More than 3,500 attended last year’s New Cardiovascular Horizons’ event, which fostered a unique environment of multidisciplinary endovascular education, networking with more than 125 exhibitors, and social interaction. It is anticipated that this year’s Renaissance Summit will attract 100-200 surgeons.
