Med Epad to Launch Acclaimed Complete Mobile Healthcare Solution at Healthcare Efficiency Through Technology Expo 2011

September, 2011 -- Following overwhelming interest mobile medical technology company Med ePad will officially launch its acclaimed complete healthcare solution and planned archive of condition specific apps at the Healthcare Efficiency Through Technology Expo 2011.

Med ePad is unique in that all of its products are developed in conjunction with NHS professionals to ensure that they address the real needs of practicing clinicians and patients.

The Med ePad solution not only addresses the missed appointments, Long Term Conditions and 30-day re-admission cost burdens the Health Service experiences annually, but also empowers patients to better manage their self-care. Its newest app, for prostate cancer, is shortly to undergo trials with healthcare providers in South Wales.

The Liverpool-based company, which has 20 years experience of the NHS, will be showcasing its interactive touch-screen tablet at the Expo, in Olympia 2, London, on October 4, and demonstrating how its audio visual features improve the use and value of physicians’ time.

The 7-inch tablet can be loaded with condition specific apps and loaned to patients with long term illnesses, resulting in highly cost-effective patient care based on accurate real-time data.

Its functions include the ability to record medication regimes and daily living patterns, receive audio visual interactive appointment and medication reminders, conduct online consultations and provide specific information relating to a particular condition, and where appropriate in the language of the patients choice.

Rob Connell, Med ePad founder and chief technical officer, said: “A critical success factor for self-care management in either health or social care is frequent, regular monitoring. Med ePad is untethering healthcare and enabling the practice of care anywhere. Our solution not only provides specific timely information to the patient regarding their condition, but also a important mechanism for many observations of daily living, that can lead to productive meaningful exchanges between patients and health and social care providers, which also results in a dramatic reduction in cost burdens.”

Early research shows mobile health can significantly reduce costs. Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and severe respiratory illness, when monitored remotely, resulted in a 50% reduction in hospital admissions and 55% reduction in home exacerbations. While remote monitoring of post discharge diabetes patients saw a 42% drop in overall cost per patient.

Med ePad is being supported by biomedical venture capital firm SPARK Impact, managers of the £25M North West Fund for Biomedical - a sub-fund of the £185m evergreen The North West Fund that is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
