The 7-inch tablet can be loaded with condition specific apps and loaned to patients with long term illnesses, resulting in highly cost-effective patient care based on accurate real-time data.
Its functions include the ability to record medication regimes and daily living patterns, receive audio visual interactive appointment and medication reminders, conduct online consultations and provide specific information relating to a particular condition, and where appropriate in the language of the patients choice.

Early research shows mobile health can significantly reduce costs. Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and severe respiratory illness, when monitored remotely, resulted in a 50% reduction in hospital admissions and 55% reduction in home exacerbations. While remote monitoring of post discharge diabetes patients saw a 42% drop in overall cost per patient.
Med ePad is being supported by biomedical venture capital firm SPARK Impact, managers of the £25M North West Fund for Biomedical - a sub-fund of the £185m evergreen The North West Fund that is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
