ROCHESTER, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kardia Health Systems, Inc., announced today that it will expand its cardiology platforms with the acquisition of Freeland Systems, a provider of multi-modality medical imaging and reporting software solutions. The move provides a more comprehensive line of high performance products and services for cardiology.
Freeland Systems has been developing digital imaging technology for cardiac ultrasound since 1980 and has a worldwide installed base of over 2,000 systems. The company’s primary objective has been to deliver Web-based software solutions that are efficient, accreditation compliant and that eliminate the hassle and high cost of purchasing and maintaining proprietary hardware. This market approach dovetails with the Kardia business model and Web-based solutions, which are designed to be highly cost-effective when deployed even in small-to medium-sized healthcare clinics.
“John Freeland and Freeland Systems have been pioneers in imaging,” said Carl George, chief executive officer, Kardia. “We are proud to incorporate this industry leadership with Kardia’s cardiology platforms to provide even better practice management tools for health care professionals and improved care to patients.”
With this acquisition, Kardia will be able to offer customers a complete Web-based clinical, diagnostic and reporting solution for end-to-end management of multiple imaging modalities.
The flagship Kardia product is the Kardia E reporting and workflow solution. It streamlines the clinical workflow process – including patient scheduling, template-guided entry of medical information and automatic generation of interpretive diagnostic statements, accreditation requirements, and billing codes.
“More medical providers are implementing Web-based applications because of the greater return on investment and lower cost of ownership,” said Wayne Schellhammer, executive vice president, Kardia. “Our solution meets the demands of hospitals and large cardiology practices as well as small-to mid-sized clinics and is easily scaled for growth.”
The Freeland Systems ACCESSPOINT suite of products will extend workflow management to include the data storage and disaster recovery, retrieval, distribution and presentation of both reports and images. With database access, secure image transfer and a server interface, ACCESSPOINT Web Viewer is a key component of a PACS or EMR system. Other ACCESSPOINT components allow practitioners to leverage the modular solutions required for their business, such as data mining, image storage and reporting, Web delivery of diagnostic quality images and integration with existing digital applications and hardware devices. For example, ACCESSPOINT PACsLink expands existing electronic medical records to include images and image-related reports. It brings together all imaging modalities including cardiac cath, nuclear CT/MRI, echocardiography, vascular and/or X-ray for display on any computer.
“The combination of Kardia and ACCESSPOINT Web-based solutions will give practitioners a complete range of modular components to develop PACS systems, with world class EBM reporting tools, accommodate existing and new EMRs and manage the imaging workflow,” said John Freeland, managing partner and president, Freeland Systems. “And, because the software is vendor-neutral, it allows clinics to leverage existing technology without making significant capital investments.”
