John Barragan Named Director Of Business Development For IPC - The Hospitalist Company

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- John Barragan, well known within the Las Vegas healthcare and business communities, has been named director of business development for IPC - The Hospitalist Company. IPC, the nation’s premier hospitalist organization, expanded its practice into Las Vegas in September and is currently serving patients at Desert Springs Hospital, Valley Hospital and two St. Rose Dominican Hospitals -- the Rose de Lima and Siena campuses.

In his new role, Barragan will be responsible for helping to grow IPC business through forging relationships with hospitals, primary care physicians, physician specialists and other locally based healthcare providers. Hospitalists, the nation’s fastest-growing medical specialty, are physicians who work in close consultation with the primary care physician and appropriate specialists to manage a patient’s entire hospital experience from time of admission until discharge.

“Hospitalists have proven to be the true drivers of inpatient care, and there is tremendous opportunity for us to service physicians and their patients throughout the Las Vegas community,” said Barragan. “We are already finding the local medical community very receptive to IPC’s track-record of helping to increase the quality of care and reduce healthcare costs while providing patients the added comfort and security of having a physician on- site to oversee care, answer questions and ensure the smooth coordination of all hospital services.”

Barragan comes to IPC from Wahiawa General Hospital in Hawaii where he most recently served as chief financial officer. Immediately prior he worked as director of finance at Las Vegas-based Pinnacle Health System and before that as co-founder and chief operating officer of Yourtrade Securities, Inc., also in Las Vegas. His Las Vegas-based career also includes serving as a financial consultant at Merrill Lynch and as an Internet programmer for the National Supercomputing Center at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

Barragan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in finance from UNLV and has remained a member of the school’s Finance Department Advisory Council. He is also a member of the Healthcare Financial Management and numerous other professional and civic organizations.

Founded in 1995, IPC employs approximately 300 physicians nationwide and manages more than $1 billion in healthcare expenditures annually. In addition to Las Vegas, IPC has practice locations in California’s Bay Area, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Fort Worth, Houston, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, San Antonio, St. Louis and Tucson. The company also has a consulting services division that helps hospitals and other healthcare organizations launch new hospitalist programs or enhance existing ones.
