29 March, 2011 -- During the Interpack exhibition in Düsseldorf, GEA Lyophil will be holding a series of afternoon seminars on specific topics related to pharmaceutical freeze drying. The seminars, and presentations of Lyophil machines, will take place on 13, 14 and 17 May at the company’s offices in Hürth. Guests will be collected from the Düsseldorf exhibition area at 2.30pm and taken to the seminars (just a 45 minute journey). The program includes a buffet dinner after the seminar, and transfer back to the exhibition centre, to the railway station or the airport as the participants wish.
The seminar is divided into 5 parts each taking around 30 minutes and will explore in detail the following subjects:
1) Total Cost of Ownership - E-STAR® Energy saving
This seminar will focus on the Total Cost of Ownership of Lyophilzation equipment by focusing on energy usage and reduced turnaround times. GEA Lyophil has recently conducted a major study into energy usage that allows users to quantify and compare the energy consumed by the various systems and processes; optimize new equipment; convert statistics to create an ‘ecological footprint’; and investigate possibilities for continuous and sustainable energy reduction under the EN16001 directive. During this seminar we will discuss this study and show the energy and time savings that can be achieved throughout the entire freeze drying process.
2) LYOFIT® - Retrofits of Lyophilizer Control System
Although a Lyophilizer can operate efficiently for many years, there comes a time when the control system needs to be upgraded to make sure performance keeps up with the latest equipment. This seminar looks closely at the changes that can be made in a control system to comply with 21CFR Part 11, make the equipment easier to use and improve safety.
With the right skill set and understanding, a retrofit project will extend the life of a lyophilizer by 10 years or more.
3) VHP-Sterilization of Freeze Dryers
In the wake of the VAPOVAC® system being accepted as being FDA compliant, this seminar will look at the benefits of sterilization using hydrogen peroxide compared with steam. It will include a description of the equipment and its applications.
4) PAT: Residual Moisture mapping and real-time moisture measurement in a freeze dryer
The moisture content of freeze dried products is usually measured online using a Mass Spectrometer, NIR or Laser. But rather than measuring the average moisture content of the complete batch, it is of major importance to know the individual moisture content of each vial of a batch in order to understand the underlying moisture variance of the individual vials per batch. GEA Lyophil has recently conducted a study together with one client on 800,000 vials to establish the moisture variances across various batches and individual positions of vials in the freeze dryer. This seminar shares that information and provides an opportunity for an exchange of views.
The seminar will also look at the LYOPLUS® real-time measurement system that allows online measurement of water and other substances in the freeze drying chamber. The presentation will include a comparison between a LYOPLUS® System (1.Gen) and a Lyotrack sensor.
5) Design functions of Loading and Unloading Systems (ALUS®)
This seminar discusses the important design criteria for Automatic Loading and Unloading Systems to ensure that they fully support operators and ensure that they are easy to use and to clean. It will also consider aspects of reliability and flexibility to avoid downtime and reduce the time taken during product changeover.
We are looking forward to welcoming you for these seminars. In addition we will give daily presentations on the booth highlighting the five topics and our staff will be available on the stand to answer your questions.
