OTTAWA, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - ImaSight Inc, formerly known as Imascope Inc., a developer and supplier of innovative digital radiography technologies, today launched the ImaSight4600 digital radiography sensor. Initially targeted for use in veterinary diagnostics, the sensor’s functionality will be exhibited at the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association’s Annual Conference and Tradeshow, January 25-27, 2007, in Toronto. Future versions of the ImaSight sensor are expected to be introduced this year and will be targeted towards applications in human health care.
An emerging company, ImaSight was founded in 2001 and has developed a leading-edge CCD-based sensor for the capture and rapid display of X-ray images on its touch-screen monitor. The ImaSight4600 was developed in conjunction with the National Optics Institute and Optical Research Associates, and incorporates several innovative breakthroughs in its patent-pending optical design to generate a very high-quality image at a vastly lower cost than existing offerings.
“To achieve the digital image quality that you get with the ImaSight4600, you would need to pay at least $100,000 on the market today,” said John Brooks, CEO of ImaSight. “A veterinary hospital could convert to the ImaSight sensor for less than $50,000.”
The ImaSight technology involves the conversion of x-rays into four different light wavelengths, which are integrated through a series of mirrors and lenses to create a sharp image. The ImaSight4600 sensor’s resolution, at 4.6 lp/mm, far exceeds the American College of Radiology recommended minimum of 2.5 lp/mm. In addition, the ImaSight4600 incorporates an industry-leading graphical user interface developed in conjunction with Ottawa-based Macadamian Technologies Inc.
The ImaSight management team is made up of highly experienced executives and engineers, including CEO John Brooks, who has managed two life sciences companies through IPO, and company founder Jean Caseault, a senior engineer with over 25 years experience in digital video and signal processing.
ImaSight recently secured funding from several investors including Fonds Soutien Outaouais, an investment fund for companies based in the Gatineau area. A joint initiative between the municipalities of the Outaouais region and of the Government of Quebec, FSO’s mission is to accelerate the launching and development of new enterprises of the Outaouais.
