DERBY, Conn., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Griffin Hospital has launched a new web site that includes a “Performance Indicator” section that provides quality, patient satisfaction, accreditation and operating performance information. Few hospitals in the country have moved to include this type of information on their web site. The web site also provides increased information about patient services, employment opportunities and charitable giving, as well as extensive health and medical information. The newly developed site can be reached at http://www.griffinhealth.org/.
The information on the new web site takes Griffin Hospital’s Planetree patient-centered approach of empowering patients through access to medical and health information to the next level. The foundation of the Planetree care model is to provide information to patients to enable them to be partners in their care treatment and well-being. Patients at Griffin are encouraged to read their medical records. They receive a packet of information about their medical problem from the hospital’s consumer health library, one of the largest collection’s of health materials at a hospital. A Care Conference is held within 48 hours of admission with their physician and caregivers to talk about their stay, tests and procedures and post-hospitalization needs. Many receive Patient Pathways that describe on a daily basis what their test and procedure schedule will be.
“Many hospitals continue to wrestle with meeting the expectations of more educated and demanding health care consumers. Seeking more involvement, openness and personalized care and services, consumers are demanding information that allows them to be participants in their care and to compare the performance of hospitals on various indicators of quality and customer service,” says Bill Powanda, Griffin Vice President.
“The new web site is designed to provide what the public is seeking. We believe it is consistent with our commitment to provide information that empowers the public and patients. Our web site, already an award-winner, will continue to be updated with new performance and quality information as it is developed and as new reports are issued,” Powanda says.
Information that will be posted on the “Performance Indicators” section of the web site includes:
-- Griffin Hospital’s Operating and Clinical Performance Indicators -- Griffin Hospital Patient Satisfaction Survey Results -- Griffin Hospital Community Survey Results -- Connecticut Department of Public Health/Medicare Quality of Care Report -- Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals Report on Griffin Hospital -- Accreditations and Awards -- Fortune “100 Best Companies to Work For” survey results -- Solucient “100 Top Hospitals” Performance Improvement Leader Report (2004) -- Patient Letters
“We look at literally hundreds of hospital Web sites during the course of the year. A number of organizations across the country have begun to have quality measures, patient satisfaction scores, and sometimes cost and operating performance information on their sites. But the number of performance indicators that Griffin Hospital is placing on its site is almost unheard of. This is the kind of comprehensive information that consumers are going to be demanding to see in the coming years,” says Mark S. Gothberg, MBA, Editor, eHealthcare Strategy & Trends, a newsletter from the publisher of Strategic Health Care Marketing, and Chairman of the annual eHealthcare Leadership Awards.
More than 40,000 people visit the Griffin web site monthly. The site has previously received several awards including the eHealthcare Leadership Platinum Award, the highest honor, for the “Best Internet Site” for a hospital under 200 beds and the Gold Award for “Best Healthcare Content.”
