DERBY, Conn., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- FORTUNE magazine has named Griffin Hospital one of the “100 Best Companies to Work for in America” for the sixth year in a row, the only hospital to achieve this impressive distinction. Griffin broke into the top ten ranking, eighth on this year’s list, its highest position. Fifty-three companies, including Griffin, have been on the list six years or more.
In a PRWeek/Burson-Marsteller survey by Impulse Research published in November 2004 that asked company chief executive officers what corporate reputation “scorecards” they considered most influential, 67% of the CEO’s named FORTUNE’S “100 Best Companies to Work For” list as the most influential. The only scorecard that ranked higher was FORTUNE’S Most Admired Companies at 71%. There were 20 “scorecards” in the survey.
At Griffin Hospital employees have created and enjoy a unique care giving environment that engages patients to actively participate in the care process-that removes barriers between care givers and their patients, and that includes programs and services designed to meet the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their family. Elements of the environment and services provided include: decentralized nursing stations, an open medical record policy, resource carts, baking, massage, meditation and stress reduction, arts and entertainment including strolling musicians, and pet therapy. Employees benefit from many of these programs and services directly, but more importantly, employees feel a sense of pride and fulfillment that they have created an exceptional patient experience that is meeting patient needs.
“The FORTUNE recognition is tribute to the talent, dedication and enthusiasm of the entire Griffin family of employees, volunteers and our medical staff who make the experience exceptional for every user of Griffin Hospital services,” said Patrick Charmel, Griffin’s President. “The pride that they have in the care and services we provide to our patients and the support we provide to each other is what makes Griffin a very special place.”
