Coverys (formerly ProMutual Group), a leading provider of medical professional liability insurance, announces that Gregg L. Hanson will succeed Richard W. Brewer as President and Chief Executive Officer upon his retirement on December 31, 2011.
Hanson, at present the Chief Operating Officer of Coverys, has been with the company 11 years and has worked beside Brewer as the company experienced successful and profitable expansions down the Eastern Seaboard and across to the Pacific coast. “Gregg is well qualified to lead Coverys into the future and I am confident that the company will continue to thrive with him at the helm,” said Brewer. “Gregg has continuously demonstrated his expertise and leadership in many areas. He has contributed significantly to improvements and initiatives that have led to Coverys’ current strength and success.”
Following Brewer’s announcement earlier this year of his retirement, the company’s Board of Directors undertook an intensive search process for a new President and CEO. A field of candidates from both outside and within the organization was considered. “The best person for the job proved to come from within the company’s ranks,” said Kenneth A. Heisler, M.D., FACS, Chairman of the Board. “Added to Gregg’s many qualities as both leader and manager is the benefit of his intimate knowledge of our industry and of Coverys’ operations in particular. The Board is pleased to witness the company’s transition from one great leader to the next.”
Prior to his current role, Hanson served as the company’s Senior Vice President of Underwriting and also oversaw the Marketing, Risk Management and Physician Education Departments. Prior to joining Coverys in 2000, he was Senior Vice President of Southern Operations and Underwriting for ProNational Insurance Company. Past positions include numerous executive positions with the St. Paul Insurance Company encompassing underwriting, marketing and operational management throughout the Midwest and Florida.
Hanson is a graduate of the University of North Dakota where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He is a member of The American Society of Healthcare Risk Management and The Professional Liability Underwriting Society.
He and his wife, Deb, reside in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. They have two grown children.
