ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Centura Health, Colorado’s largest healthcare system, announced that Terry O’Rourke, M.D., joined the organization as corporate chief medical officer on November 1.

Dr. O’Rourke has leadership responsibility for the system’s clinical effectiveness and quality efforts, as well as patient safety. He also will provide clinical input relating to operational initiatives, including clinical information systems. O’Rourke also will serve as advocate for medical staff within Centura hospitals and work with physicians to advance clinical and quality initiatives.

O’Rourke is a surgeon who has practiced in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the past 28 years, primarily at Penrose Hospital. His education includes an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, and an M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School. Along with an outstanding education and successful medical practice, O’Rourke has been awarded dozens of appointments over the years, including Centura Board of Trustees member and chair since Centura’s founding in 1996, and Quality Committee member; Catholic Health Initiatives Quality and Patient Safety Committee chair; Covenant Health Systems board member and Quality Committee chair; Catholic Health Association Board of Trustees member and Physician Committee chair and Penrose medical staff president (81-82) and Penrose Cancer Center medical director .
In addition to these and many other achievements, Dr. O’Rourke has served as a medical instructor, been published in numerous medical journals, and has received the American Cancer Society’s Sword of Hope Award.
