BETHLEHEM, PA--(Marketwired - October 19, 2016) - B. Braun Medical Inc., the market leader in regional anesthesia, will launch a new patient safety initiative -- its neuraxial products with NRFit™ connectors -- at this year’s American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) meeting, Oct. 22-26 in Chicago.
As a member of the Global Enteral Device Supplier Association (GEDSA), B. Braun worked with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to develop standards for small bore connectors that are intended to prevent misconnections to improve patient safety. All healthcare facilities are expected to begin converting to meet the ISO standard requiring NRFit connectors for neuraxial use. California has already taken legislative action by mandating that healthcare facilities convert to these new standardized epidural products by Jan. 1, 2017.
To see a demonstration or hands-on experience of the NRFit connectors, and learn about B. Braun’s regional anesthesia products and training, ASA attendees should visit Booth #2419.
“B. Braun has been at the forefront of preparing for this change. We’ve taken an active role in helping our customers comply with the evolving industry safety standards, including transitioning to products with NRFit connectors,” said Brad Lane, Vice President, Critical Care Marketing at B. Braun. “As the leader in regional anesthesia products and an advocate for patient safety, it’s about providing the safest delivery of medications in the healthcare system.”
The current design of universal Luer connectors poses the risk of inadvertent misconnections. The new NRFit connector design prohibits medical devices meant for neuraxial administration from connecting to devices used for IV, enteral and other applications. “By replacing Luer connectors with NRFit connectors, clinicians can reduce the risk of cross-connection between applications and reduce medication errors,” Lane added.
