Biocompare Announces New Pathways Tool

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Biocompare, the online buyer’s guide for life scientists, today announced the launch of its new pathways feature within its gene specific product search tool.

The new pathways feature provides scientists with a unique capability to search for all products associated with the elements within a specific cell-signaling pathway of interest. http://www.biocompare.com/gene/gene_pathway.asp

The pathways tool is the latest addition to the Gene Specific Product Directory(GSPD). The GSPD has successfully allowed scientists to perform searches and comparisons across vendors for all products used to study a specific gene or protein. With the addition of the pathways feature, scientists will now be able to access all products required to study genes and their functions within the context of a specific cell-signaling pathway.

“We are very excited about this technology and the simplicity it provides to scientists in studying cell signaling pathways,” said Alia Merla, Manager of Product Development, who has played an instrumental role in developing this new feature. “The integration of a powerful product search tool with a database of scientific pathway information gives researchers the ability to gain valuable scientific information as they search through new products and technologies applicable to their area of research.”

Each pathway page consists of a pathway diagram and a protein list. The involved proteins are displayed as clickable links to gene and protein information, as well as gene-specific products such as antibodies, RNAi products, immunoassays and cDNA clones. The visual illustration of each pathway and the gene products involved at every step allows scientists to investigate not only the scientific processes they are studying but also the functions of and relationships between neighboring proteins in that pathway.

“With the combination of product search capabilities and a database of pathway information, it is now possible for scientists to access all their research specific resources in one location. The dual advantage of finding products alongside scientific information is what makes this tool an outstanding feature. The pathways tool is thus a phenomenal addition to the services that Biocompare continues to provide to the scientific community,” said Paul Gatti, President and CEO of Biocompare.
