BIOCITECH Welcomes Selkis And Henoïda

The companies from the Bond’Innov incubator extend the scope of the sectors represented at BIOCITECH to encompass innovative software and molecule based mosquito repellents

Romainville, France, July 7, 2015 - BIOCITECH, the city complex for healthcare and biotechnology companies, today announces that two start-ups from the Bond’Innov incubator have moved to its site. The arrival of Selkis and Henoïda, between the end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015, has diversified BIOCITECH’s resident companies’ sectors and reflects the growing appeal of the city complex to innovative start-ups.

Selkis, a company specialized in molecule based mosquito repellent, is currently in fundraising mode to fulfill its development plan.

Henoïda develops innovative memory aid software for use in education and healthcare. It has settled into premises suitable for a three-strong team that will increase to five before the end of the year.

“We are delighted to welcome Selkis and Henoïda to the BIOCITECH city complex,” said Jean-François Boussard, chairman of BIOCITECH. “Our comprehensive range of services (plug & live) and the entrepreneurial ecosystem that we provide for our residents (plug & grow) are ideal for businesses at the seed funding stage. These start-ups greatly benefit from the ‘campus effect’ of BIOCITECH. In addition to the high quality services and premises that we provide for our residents, BIOCITECH also cultivates an environment that encourages business innovation and growth right from inception. As they grow we continue to adapt to their needs in terms of floor area and equipment.”

Supported by the Bond’Innov incubator since September 2012, Selkis was officially founded in July 2010. Currently at fundraising stage, the company is now entering its commercial growth phase by moving into premises at BIOCITECH.

“We have patented a new molecule with exceptional properties to repel mosquitoes, which we are using to develop highly effective topical products that reflect new market trends and user expectations,” said Jérémy Drapeau, chairman of Selkis. “BIOCITECH’s premises especially designed for start-ups, the fully equipped R&D laboratories, synergies between residents and the entrepreneurial ecosystem were all key factors in our decision to move to the city complex. It offers an enabling environment with shared services such as storage and waste disposal – particularly important for our line of business – where we can ramp up our R&D and our commercial expansion and build on strategic collaborations with one or more resident service providers.”

Henoïda was founded in January 2014 and has been supported by the Bond’Innov incubator since September 2014. A holder of the Jeune Entreprise Innovante (Innovative Young Business) label, Henoïda provides software that increases knowledge acquisition and retention capabilities by combining research on memory with digital technologies. The company conducts joint research with the Human and Artificial Cognition Laboratory at the University of Paris X, France.

“Our current study is investigating the impact of digital technology on vocabulary learning in a foreign language. Henoïda’s scientific research will enable every individual to gain control of their memory and thus improve how they learn,” said Ibis Lilley, co-founder of Henoïda. “The BIOCITECH complex has significant scientific credibility, making it possible for us to strengthen our ties with the world of cognitive psychology and healthcare research. We will be able to develop digital tools founded on reliable scientific data and bring them to the market. Our move means that we can launch the initial version of the Henoïda application before the end of 2015.”

Bond’Innov, the leading incubator in Seine-Saint-Denis, France, was founded in June 2011 by Bondy Town Council, the General Council of Seine-Saint-Denis, the Est Ensemble Urban Community, France’s Development Research Institute (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, IRD), the BIOCITECH city complex and the University of Paris XIII.
