MANSFIELD, Mass., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- NDO Surgical, Inc. announced that Bernard Haffey joins the company as President and CEO. He will also serve on the board of directors. Formerly Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at IntraLase Corp., Haffey brings valuable expertise guiding a number of early-stage medical devices and therapies to commercial viability and global adoption.
Haffey will lead NDO Surgical’s research and commercial development efforts for the Plicator, the Company’s minimally invasive treatment for GERD. He will focus on continuing to improve the reimbursement landscape while raising the capital necessary to elevate the commercial adoption rate of the Plicator procedure. “Bernie has a proven track record of successfully launching emerging medical technologies,” said Dr. Laufer, chairman of NDO Surgical. “We are confident he has the experience, energy and vision to help NDO Surgical reach our ultimate goal -- providing GERD sufferers worldwide with safe and effective treatment of breakthrough symptoms.”
Over the last ten years, Haffey held executive roles at several innovative medical technology companies, and successfully helped bring two of those companies to acquisition. Under Haffey’s leadership, IntraLase launched its laser vision technology globally, grew company revenues to over $130 million and achieved significant operating profitability. IntraLase was acquired by Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) on April 2, 2007. Haffey will continue to support the integration of IntraLase into AMO as a consultant through June 2007.
Prior to IntraLase, Haffey served as CEO at NeuroVision, Inc., as well as Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Summit Autonomous, Inc. Summit Autonomous was acquired by Alcon Laboratories in 2000. Mr. Haffey’s record of success within the medical device sector also includes having served at Mentor Ophthalmics, Inc. as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and at Hewlett-Packard Medical Products Group in marketing. A graduate of Colgate University, Haffey also holds an MBA from Cornell University, Johnson Graduate School of Management.
“This is a great time to join NDO Surgical,” said Haffey. “Recently published data continues to demonstrate the efficacy and durability of Plicator technology for the treatment of GERD.
