LOS ANGELES, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Renowned radio host Art Linkletter will be honored by the Barlow Respiratory Hospital Foundation, along with the distinguished Dr. Joseph P. Van Der Meulen, of the University of Southern California, during its Gala Celebration 2004 this November.
Tickets are now available for this fundraiser event that is being held Saturday, November 6, 2004 at the OMNI Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. L.A.'s premier entertainment reporter, Sam Rubin, of KTLA Channel 5 and KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO, will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the exciting dinner program. A special performance will be provided by Sean McDermott, one of Broadway’s leading tenors, well-known for such roles as Chris of Miss Saigon and Whizzer in Falsettos, as well as his famed television persona, Hart Jessup, on Guiding Light.
Festivities will also include a special raffle drawing for treasured prizes, including a $2,000 half-carrot solitaire diamond and a pearl necklace valued at $700, among other great prizes and giveaways.
Renowned radio and television icon, and author of the best-selling “Kids Say the Darndest Things,” Art Linkletter will be honored as the 2004 Humanitarian of the Year for his years of service to important public health causes, including drug abuse prevention, fitness and physical education. Mr. Linkletter has brought his leadership to public health, presiding on numerous boards of directors, and he continues to serve as a source of inspiration for senior citizens nationwide.
The 2004 Barlow Respiratory Hospital Award will be presented to Dr. Joseph P. Van Der Meulen, vice president for Health Affairs at the University of Southern California for his significant contributions to the field of neurology and for his nearly 40 years of dedication to public health policy as an educator, community leader, researcher, author and distinguished physician.
This will be the third annual gala hosted by the specialty hospital, which works in concert with nearly 100 area hospitals to provide respiratory and other critical care services for the Southern California community. Previous years’ honorees include boxing legend George Foreman, actress Sally Struthers, Olympic Champion swimmer Tom Dolan, and the esteemed Dr. Hans Einstein.
