American Brain Tumor Association Names New Chief Communications Officer

CHICAGO, Sept. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Brain Tumor Association is pleased to announce that Martha Carlos has joined the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) as chief communications officer. Carlos’ responsibilities include driving the strategy for external relations efforts for the nonprofit, including the management of the integrated marketing and communications function and the growth of a nationwide volunteer program.

Martha Carlos, CCO

Carlos spent 10 years at the American Red Cross of Chicago and Northern Illinois in a variety of roles, most recently serving as chief communications and marketing officer overseeing all marketing, communications and government relations efforts for the agency. Carlos has more than two decades of marketing, media and public relations experience in healthcare, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, including a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, and a 24-hour crisis center, Common Ground Sanctuary, both in the Detroit area.

“Martha is a strong leader who brings along with her external-relations experience, a history of working in social media and with volunteers, and she understands how critical both are to the success of a dynamic nonprofit,” said Elizabeth M. Wilson, president and CEO, American Brain Tumor Association.

“Having had some experience with brain tumors, I have some sense for the toll this devastating disease can take on a family. I’m eager to find ways to let more people know that the ABTA is there for them, when and where they need us,” said Carlos.
