WASHINGTON, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite guidelines on diabetes management announced in 2001 by the American College of Endocrinologists (ACE) and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) there is a noticeable lack of compliance among patients and physicians.
Type 2 diabetes has reached epidemic proportions in the United States affecting more than 18 million people. To respond to this growing disease, leading endocrinologists, the specialists who treat diabetes, will hold a two- day conference (January 31-February 1) to create a physician and patient roadmap. The new recommendations aim to empower patients with diabetes and their doctors by giving them practical tools and behavioral approaches to help control blood sugar. The roadmap responds to both the soaring number of people who develop diabetes each year and to the need for further physician and patient education.
