WASHINGTON, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- America's Health Insurance Plans announced the selection of Nicola P. Klein, M.D., Ph.D. of Stanford University as the first awardee of the newly created AHIP Vaccine Safety Fellowship Program. In the two-year program, Dr. Klein will pursue the study of the Safety and Immunogenicity of Vaccines Administered to Preterm Infants in the NICU in collaboration with mentors at Stanford University and Northern California Kaiser Permanente.
"The Vaccine Safety Fellowship Program is part of our ongoing collaboration with the CDC and member plans in the area of vaccine safety," said AHIP President and CEO Karen Ignagni. "The sponsorship of this post- doctoral fellowship reflects our community's ongoing effort to work with public and private stakeholders on improving the safety and effectiveness of infant vaccinations."
As part of a contract with the CDC, AHIP oversees a broad network of health plan research and academic medical centers. The initiative, known as the Vaccine Safety Surveillance and Assessment Projects, brings together two programs: the Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) project and the Clinical Immunization Safety and Assessment (CISA) network in an effort to expand the number of new clinical investigators in vaccine safety by providing training support and guidance.
