ACS Medicaid Management Information System For District Of Columbia Receives Federal Certification

DALLAS, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., , a premier provider of business process and information technology outsourcing solutions, announced today that the Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) ACS developed for the Department of Health, Medical Assistance Administration of the District of Columbia has received Federal Certification.

The Federal Government establishes the general guidelines for the Medicaid program for all states. Program requirements are established by each state and funded by both the federal government and the individual states. States must apply for and receive certification of their MMIS from the Center for Medicare Medicaid (CMS) by demonstrating that the system meets all requirements and performance standards before receiving full federal matching funds. In August of 2004, the District received notification of certification from CMS of the new MMIS retroactive to July 1, 2002.

In February 2001, ACS signed a 5-year fiscal agent services contract with the District of Columbia to implement an advanced MMIS. In July of 2002, after only 15 months of development ACS completed system implementation. The new system provides greater functionality and flexibility than the previous system the District had utilized for more than 20 years.

“ACS is extremely proud of its role in assisting the District to secure federal certification. It is quite an achievement to receive federal financial participation for operation of their MMIS 25 months after going live with a new system,” said Harvey V. Braswell, Group President of ACS State Healthcare Solutions. “We understand that states and municipalities are still facing budget shortfalls, so the federal dollars received by meeting all the criteria for certification are critical. ACS has once again demonstrated that we can design a system for our customers that meets all performance standards and has the flexibility to quickly adapt to changing program needs.”
