The Medical Center Of Central Georgia Ensures Privacy Of Patient Data With ClearCube PC Blades

AUSTIN, Texas, July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- ClearCube Technology, the market leader and pioneer in PC blade computing, today announced that The Medical Center of Central Georgia (MCCG) has installed its PC Blades. MCCG has more than 4,000 employees and 637 patient beds which require an IT solution that solves space and security challenges while still providing the full-scale PC performance critical to all clinical areas. HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act, makes the security of patient medical and financial data paramount. Traditional PCs posed a potential HIPAA security risk.

"Having the ClearCube PC Blades in a secure location enhances our ability to safeguard patient information. The ClearCube PC Blades, combined with the ClearCube management software, minimizes the possibility of any data being extracted to removable media," said Madison Mock, CIO MCCG. "This conforms to HIPAA standards for safeguarding patient health information."

HIPAA regulations and an aging IT infrastructure are forcing hospitals such as MCCG to reevaluate and update their computing environments. According to a recent report by Forrester, "After years of lagging behind in IT investments, this year hospitals expect to spend 5.5 percent of revenue on IT expenses -- roughly the same as other businesses -- and will pull ahead in some areas." MCCG has installed PC Blades throughout the hospital including nursing stations, emergency rooms, administrative offices and training rooms. The ClearCube solution removed the computer and its hard drive from the user's desktop and secured them in a remote data center where IT staff controls access. IT administrators can then enable or disable the use of mass-storage devices. Additionally, in the event of a failure, the ClearCube solution allows the IT manager to get the user back up and running in moments, assuring availability levels that exceed 99.9%.

"MCCG is not alone; we hear from other healthcare organizations that they want a solution that will secure information without jeopardizing performance and save space while providing medical professionals with access to patient information on demand," said Carl Boisvert, President and CEO of ClearCube. "ClearCube provides an end-to-end computing solution for hospitals that others simply cannot offer. MCCG joins the many hospitals worldwide that understand this unique value and have deployed our solution"

One of the most innovative uses of the ClearCube solution is at the patient's bedside. Doctors can access patient information, patients can access educational services and nurses can check and administer drugs with access to the latest information from the same bedside terminal.

ClearCube PC Blades have been installed in healthcare environments, including Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group, John. C. Lincoln Hospital, Oklahoma Heart Hospital, Hinsdale Hospital and Edward Hospital.
