CAMBRIDGE, MA (August 21, 2014) – MassBio members can now save on leading scientific journals through new partnerships with Nature Publishing Group (NPG) and the Journal of Commercial Biotechnology announced today.

By joining the already robust MassBio Purchasing Consortium, Nature Publishing Group (NPG) has committed to offering select MassBio members special pricing on NPG’s Articles on Demand Platform and reduced site license pricing for the journals Nature and Nature Biotechnology. MassBio’s partnership with NPG is specifically designed to support small biotechs, hospitals, non-profits, and associate members of MassBio. NPG publishes high-impact peer-reviewed research in all fields of science along with news and commentary on trends affecting science, scientists and the wider public.

The Journal of Commercial Biotechnology will offer new MassBio members a free one-year digital institutional subscription and existing MassBio members discounts off personal or institutional subscriptions. The journal publishes peer-reviewed, authoritative, cutting-edge articles written by the leading practitioners and researchers in the field, addressing topics such as management, policy, finance, law, regulation, and bioethics.

“Access to leading scientific journals is critical but sometimes prohibitively expensive for our small member companies,” said Robert K. Coughlin, President & CEO of MassBio. “We are thrilled to help our members access articles from and subscriptions to Nature, Nature Biotechnology, and the Journal of Commercial Biotechnology at a discount through these new partnerships.”

“We are extremely excited to be partnering with MassBio to offer our world class content to organizations in a position to make a difference in the pursuit of scientific discovery,” said Elliot Hermann, Vice President, Sales Operations & Analysis of NPG. “This partnership very much fits within our core values of promoting scientific knowledge to the widest possible audience.”

The MassBio Purchasing Consortium aggregates the purchasing power of MassBio member companies to negotiate contracts with vendors that create significant savings for members. Current contracts include lab supplies and equipment, equipment maintenance, hazardous and biomedical waste removal, packaged and bulk gases, office supplies and furniture, travel management, auto insurance, domestic and international shipping, mobile solutions, and scientific journals.
