Revolutionary Technique Expands on Gas Plasma Research as Applied to Military Radar Applications
RIDGEFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 28, 2004-- Markland Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: MRKL - News; http://www.marklandtech.com) an integrated homeland security company, announced today its gas plasma research team has been awarded with a patent for re-configurable electromagnetic waveguides based on the use of gas plasma technology. A gas plasma waveguide of fixed dimensions would be capable of transmitting multiple frequencies within a single waveguide enclosure simply by dynamically modifying the properties of the plasma. Traditional metal waveguides do not have this capability due to the limitations of their physical dimensions, and inability to change the geometry of the waveguide enclosure.
The military is interested in the plasma antenna because a plasma antenna has more durability and provides greater stealth. Military applications such as naval surface ship and submarine radar, stealth aircraft radar, and ballistic missile defense radar antennas could all benefit greatly from the properties of gas plasma antenna technology. Ongoing research efforts, which are being conducted by Markland, have historically been funded by the US Navy, Missile Defense Agency, and the US Air Force. The company stated that it believes that its proprietary patented gas plasma antenna technology will give the military and its prime contractors expanded capabilities for the design of next generation radar systems.
Robert Tarini, CEO of Markland stated, “We are proud of our research team of plasma physicists and the significant portfolio of patented work that they have created. We are working toward defining business opportunities with major DOD contractors to exploit the benefits of this technology.”
