Magellan Health Services, the nation's leading manager of behavioral health care, today reaffirmed its position that the benefits of antidepressant medications, when used appropriately, outweigh the known risks. The company recommends following the advice of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and leading depression experts, which advise clinicians to begin antidepressant treatment carefully, monitor patients closely and watch for signs of negative side effects, worsening symptoms and increased suicidal thinking or behavior.
