Informatica And HP Help American Healthways To Improve Patient Care And Reduce Health Care Costs

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Informatica Corporation and HP today announced that American Healthways has successfully paired the Informatica PowerCenter data integration platform with HP Integrity servers to help improve outcomes for patients and reduce health care costs.

The leading U.S. provider of disease-management and high-risk health management services, American Healthways has experienced a four-year compounded annual growth rate in revenues of 48 percent, accompanied by exponential growth in the amount of data to be integrated and analyzed.

Currently with more than 1.3 million individuals under management, American Healthways uses Informatica’s PowerCenter and Intel Itanium(R) 2-based HP Integrity servers to consolidate massive volumes of claims, clinical and pharmacy data.

With Informatica and HP, the company is able to ensure the dissemination of and adherence to the most up-to-date evidence-based standards of care for patients, strengthen physician/patient relationships with timely information, and empower individuals to become more effective self-managers of their health.

“The powerful combination of PowerCenter data integration software and HP Integrity servers has helped us leverage our growing data volumes to optimize the care-enhancement services we provide to health-plan customers and their members. The solutions have also proved to be a growth enabler for American Healthways,” said Scott Kozicki, vice president and chief technology officer at American Healthways. “Our job is to figure out who’s suffering from chronic illness and what interventions to use to improve their health -- a formidable challenge with immense data volumes that continue to grow. The performance and scalability inherent in Informatica software and the HP systems help us stay ahead of the data integration performance curve, and thus the customer service curve, as we continue our company’s growth trajectory.”

“For a fast-growing company in a data-driven industry such as health care, flexibility and scalability are imperative for sustained growth, cost-effective operations and customer satisfaction,” said John Entenmann, executive vice president of corporate strategy and marketing at Informatica. “PowerCenter helps customers manage increasing volumes of data and automatically leverage the advantages of underlying hardware platforms, so they have ample flexibility in how they boost performance and scalability. We’re pleased to be participating in American Healthways’ success, which is a showcase for leveraging information to proactively deliver the highest quality of patient care.”

American Healthways migrated from a 32-bit platform, experiencing a tenfold performance gain from the combination of PowerCenter’s 64-bit release on HP Integrity rx4640 and HP Superdome servers running the HP-UX 11i version 2 operating system and Oracle(R) 9i database software. The Integrity servers are supported by an HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array 5000 subsystem.

“The proven combination of HP Integrity servers, HP-UX operating system and Informatica’s PowerCenter software is an ideal fit for providing the integration and business intelligence value American Healthways needs today, and the system performance, flexibility and scalability to continue to meet the IT requirements of their growing business in the future,” said Don Jenkins, vice president of marketing for the Business Critical Server Group at HP.

With jobs now completed in hours instead of days, American Healthways has additional capacity for adding new clients, and through HP’s instant capacity on demand program, the company will be able to scale the implementation still further.

American Healthways is the nation’s leading and largest provider of specialized, comprehensive disease management, care enhancement and high-risk health management services proven to improve the quality of health care and lower costs.
